How Tax is Configured in Cyncly Retail One

The tax settings available in Cyncly Retail One depend on your company locale. Your locale determines which country-specific locations, tax methods, fields, and options are available in Tax Configuration.

Use this article to understand how tax setup is organized for your locale and find the setup instructions that apply to your company.

Work with your finance or tax team before changing these settings. Cyncly Retail One supports the tax decisions your company enters, but it does not determine which rates or tax treatments your company is legally required to use.

Find Tax Configuration

Go to Settings > General Setup > Tax Configuration.

The fields and options available on this page may vary based on your company locale.

United States Tax Configuration

For companies with the United States locale, Tax Configuration contains three tabs:

  • Tax Rules
  • Job Types
  • Product Types

Each tab controls a different part of tax setup.

Tax Rules

Use Tax Rules to enter state tax information and any related local tax details.

Each Tax Rule includes a state, state tax rate, and the G/L account where the tax will post. A rule can also include a description, an activation date, an expiration date, and local details for ZIP codes, cities, counties, or special tax areas.

Tax Rules can have a status of Draft, Active, or Inactive.

Job Types

Use Job Types to identify whether each type of work uses Sales Tax or Use Tax.

This allows tax treatment to depend on the type of job as well as the location of the sale. Active Job Types are available for users to select on proposals and sales orders.

Product Types

Use **Product Types** to identify which product categories are taxable.

The Product Types tab displays the values maintained under **Settings > Product Setup > Product Type**. You cannot create or rename Product Types from Tax Configuration. You can control whether each listed Product Type is taxable.

How the Settings Work Together

Each tab answers a different tax setup question.

Tax Rules provide the state and local tax information your company uses.

Job Types identify whether a type of work uses Sales Tax or Use Tax.

Product Types identify which product categories are taxable.

Together, these settings provide tax information used during proposal and sales order workflows.

Related Setup

Product Types must be maintained under Settings > Product Setup > Product Type before they appear in Tax Configuration.

Fees are maintained separately under Settings > General Setup > Fees. Fee setup controls the standard fee amount and whether the fee is taxable.
